What if you could feel better by gently tapping places on your face, hands and collar bone?

Tapping on acupuncture points combined with well-chosen words often brings a reduction in stress & other negative emotions including fear, anger, sadness as well as physiological changes such a reduction in the stress hormone cortisol and a reduction in pain.

This technique is called EFT or ‘Tapping’.

  • EFT or ‘Tapping’ combines cognitive therapy, exposure therapy and gentle tapping on acupressure points on the face, hands and body (usually the collar bone and under the arm).   • There is a growing body of research showing impressive results in resolving phobias, anxiety, PTSD and more, with people of all ages and many different backgrounds, from school students, university students, and athletes, to war veterans. EFT has been around for more than 20 years and this body of research is continually growing.   • EFT can be used to relieve many kinds of emotional stress including stress, anxiety, overwhelm, anger and PTSD. By tapping on acupressure points and facing uncomfortable emotions, many people experience surprising relief.

    It is an excellent self-help tool and has been used effectively by both adults and children. Please note that, for intense emotional issues and/or complex issues, working with a qualified practitioner so that we can safely and gently identify the root cause(s) of the issue (usually events in the past) and gently feel and release whatever needs to be felt and released, is recommended.

    You do not need to know the root cause of an issue beforehand. We can do that work together (and it is often surprisingly quick).

    An example of a cause:

    • A person who experiences stress and nervousness at the thought of giving a presentation at work might have been brought to the front of the classroom when they were 10 to recite a poem, forgotten the words and been laughed at by a classmate. Or harshly criticised by an older family member whenever they shared their opinion growing up. Or experienced a different similar situation in which they learned that it was not safe to use their voice in front of a group.

    Good to know:

    • Emotions give us valuable information but when they are overwhelming or when unprocessed emotion from things that happened in the past is having a negative effect on the present, EFT can be helpful.

  • Phobias? Fear? Long-standing anxiety? For permanent results, we look for the cause. Often the emotions underlying an issue are rooted in past events.

    For example, if a person has a fear of public speaking, it is likely that they learned on some level that it was not safe to speak in front of a group (and thus that situation triggers a stress response) because something emotionally-stressful happened in the past. When they were 10 years old, they might have been brought to the front of the class to recite a poem, forgotten the words, and been laughed at. They might have been criticised by an older family member whenever they shared their opinion, or humiliated by a boss at work during a presentation.

    The good news is that once we have identified the root event(s), we can use EFT to safely and gently feel and release the emotions connected to the original event(s), and remove its impact in the present.

  • Once learned, you can apply EFT to any situation or experience in which you feel emotional stress. It is also an excellent tool for when you simply need to feel calmer and often brings clarity.

    Please note that working with an experienced and trauma-informed practitioner is recommended when attempting to resolve emotionally intense experiences.
