FAQs

  • The first step is to clarify the issue, the goal and a way to measure progress. If this is your first time doing EFT, we will run through the steps - where to tap and how to use words to help the process. You may find that you begin to feel more relaxed and at ease quite quickly as you tap.

With the goal established, we look for the root of the issue and begin the work. This is usually event(s) in the past (though not necessarily).

You may arrive knowing already where an issue began. You may not know but not to worry - you will be surprised how quickly the relevant memory decides to surface once we are tapping and talking together.

Please note that it is always your choice. If a memory surfaces that you do not wish to go near at this time, we can pack it up and put it away safely. If something surfaces that you do not wish to talk about out loud, you do not need to. There are ways to work with it without sharing the details out loud. (Of course all sessions are confidential.)

All past events will be approached gently, reducing the intensity as we go. We will only go where you are ready to go and at the speed you are comfortable with.

One often unexpected result of tapping on a event in the past and neutralising the emotional charge held there, is that we often begin to see what happened clearly for the first time.

It may mean realising that we did not need to feel guilty all this time over something we see now was not our fault. It may mean seeing someone we blamed with more compassion. It may mean simply being at peace with a memory, even if we wish it had not happened - it no longer has power over us in the present.

It may mean understanding that someone else at fault and that we are not ready to forgive them, and that is okay. Or it may mean realising that something that caused major embarassment was a small thing after all and we might even feel like laughing about it.

  • Zoom Sessions

Please ensure that you are in a quiet and private space, have comfortable seating and a glass of water.

Technical: You will need a stable internet connection, access to zoom on your laptop or computer with a working camera and microphone.

I will aim to have the zoom room open 10-15 minutes before the beginning of our session so that you can log in and check that you are comfortable with everything.

I recommend checking that you can access zoom, and that your camera and microphone are okay beforehand so that there is little stress on the day.

    In-person Sessions

Please arrive a little early if possible so that we can make full use of the time.

It is good to drink some water during and after a session. Where possible in a venue, I will have water ready. You are also very welcome to bring a drink with you (but not black tea or coffee).

  • The average number of sessions is two or three. It will depend greatly on the issue. In some cases, one session is enough. Where issues are complex and/or where the client wishes to proceed more slowly, more may be recommended.

It is usually a good idea to allow at least a few days between sessions.

  • Some people experience relief from pain using EFT.

This can happen where underlying emotions are contributing to the pain, for example where emotionally-distressing events took place around or shortly before the beginning of the pain, or where a person has been experiencing higher-than-usual levels of stress over a period of time.

The impact of an illness or injury can, of course, be emotionally distressing in and of itself. There may be guilt about not being able to work, fear about the future, anger when wondering why it happened, etc.

EFT can help to bring those emotions to the surface, and gently and safely allow them to be felt and released.

This may bring a reduction in pain or discomfort. (Please note that this will depend greatly on the person and their individual circumstance.)

Please note that EFT does not claim to heal any illness, but it can be an excellent complement to traditional medical care.
